Conrail seeks fast track abandonment of Embankment

It has come to the Jersey City Landmarks Conservancy's attention that Conrail intends to file papers on April 7th seeking a fast track "class exemption" in their attempts to abandon the Harsimus Stem Embankment. The Conservancy is making official requests to be a party to these proceedings in order to help guarantee that the final decision complies with our goals of historic preservation of the Embankment and public access, not inappropriate private development. In light of Conrail's recent inadequate environmental and historic filings we are concerned that this fast tracking is an attempt to short circuit compliance with the National Historic Preservation Act.
