Sixth Street Embankment

The Harsimus Stem Embankment--commonly known as the Sixth Street Embankment or, simply, the Embankment--is a former elevated railway running parallel to six blocks of Sixth Street in downtown Jersey City.  A towering segmented stone structure, the Embankment borders two historic districts, Harsimus Cove and Hamilton Park. The Embankment is a Jersey City Municipal Landmark and it is listed on the New Jersey State Register of Historic Places. The Embankment is eligible for the National Register of Historic Places.
