The Lafayette Neighborhood Black Heritage Walking Tour: Historian, Museum of Jersey City History board member and community advocate Jerome Choice hosts an enriching, emotional and personal journey, highlighting Black history and his life-long experiences in the historic Lafayette neighborhood of Jersey City, which was originally settled by the Dutch over 400 years ago in the ancient Lenni Lenape village of Communipaw.

Sacred Spaces on Jersey City’s Black Heritage Trail Van Tour: Preservation advocate and founder of the Jersey City Landmarks Conservancy (JCLC) John Gomez takes us on a journey to sacred Black spaces in Jersey City, including the Bergen Avenue church where the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. gave one of his final public speeches in 1968 as well as an Ocean Avenue landmark founded as New Jersey’s first Black Catholic parish.

The Jersey City Landmarks Conservancy’s Black Heritage Trail tours on Saturday, February 21, 2026, are made possible by the participation of our committed community partners, including the Jersey Anti-Violence Coalition, the Museum of Jersey City History, Councilman Frank "Educational" Gilmore, Gotta Go Gaming S.T.E.A.M. and ESports Education HUB, and numerous historic houses of worship in Jersey City that graciously opened their doors to us.
