Last month the 100+-year-old Corte & Co. meat provisions factory and generational family butchery was demolished — along with an adjacent building dating to circa-1872 — as the busy intersection flanking the Bergen Arches is readied for another massive Journal Square-area residential tower.

PRESERVATION NEW JERSEY has just released its 2024 top-ten list of threatened historic sites and places in New Jersey — timed strategically with the start of Preservation Month!

The Jersey City Landmarks Conservancy was shocked to discover in April that a singular stained glass memorial window at the long-shuttered (2005) Sacred Heart Church on MLK Drive between Bayview and Bidwell avenues was unnecessarily shattered, seriously diminishing the integrity of a treasure of stained glass art.
