The Jersey City Landmarks Conservancy presents Jersey City’s Historic Horseshoe Neighborhood Walking Tour on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.—1:00 p.m. or 2:00 p.m.—4:00 p.m.
$25 for an adult ticket; $20 for seniors, veterans, children under 12, current students, teachers, and persons with disabilities, via our Eventbrite online ticket booth.
Explore an ancient yet renewed residential and industrial district once known as “The Horseshoe” and now the site of an urban renaissance unique in recent development. Explore this singular Jersey City neighborhood within steps of Holland Tunnel portals with our preservationists and discover intact architectural monuments currently being restored, adaptively reused, and reinvigorated. Walk under soaring 100-year-old roadway trestles and astride late-19th-century railroad embankments. Visit underpass walls painted in stunning graffiti art and shadowed by colossal factory and terminal buildings. See a vacant circa-1930 diner — the last of its kind in the area. Stand on Jersey City’s shortest residential street still covered in its original slate pavement. Walk by rows of immigrant tenement walk-ups and flat houses miraculously spared erasure. Stand within tunnel plazas and lots still filled with midcentury warehouses and hotels. See sidewalk statuary and shrines that once graced the front gardens of a now-closed, skyscraper-topped Romanesque Revival church building. Sit inside a new public park named for one of Jersey City’s original founders and developers.
Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a water bottle and bug spray. Metered street parking is available, as are paid parking decks. The tour will conclude at the Horseshoe Kitchen & Bar at the Cast Iron Lofts, where participants can purchase food and drinks. Help us support local businesses in the ‘Shoe!
